Presentation of the “Uzbek Studies Program” at the University of Oxford

On October 14, 2025, the prestigious academic center of the United Kingdom — the University of Oxford — hosted the official presentation of the “Uzbek Studies Program.”

The event was attended by Saida Mirziyoyeva, Head of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Uzbekistan; Gulnoza Ismailova, Executive Director of the “El-yurt umidi” Foundation; Nozliya Normurodova, Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation at the Alisher Navo'i Tashkent State University of  Uzbek Language and Literature (TSUULL); as well as Oxford professors, representatives of the UK’s foreign and educational institutions, diplomats, and members of the Uzbek delegation.

This landmark event stands as a logical continuation of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s policy of cultural and educational diplomacy, demonstrating Uzbekistan’s growing presence and influence in global academia, science, and culture.

Launched in collaboration with the “El-yurt umidi” Foundation, the Oxford Birsoz Initiative, and TSUULL, the program represents the first-ever comprehensive academic track in Oxford’s history dedicated to the study of the Uzbek language, literature, culture, history, and anthropology.

As the main academic and methodological partner, TSUULL plays an active role in the program’s development. Its scholars have contributed to designing the curriculum, educational content, and methodological framework. Moreover, the program provides TSUULL professors with the opportunity to teach, conduct research, and gain experience with advanced educational technologies at Oxford.

Another key feature of the initiative is the integration of TSUULL’s digital platform “UzAcademy” into Oxford’s educational ecosystem. UzAcademy is more than just a language-learning tool — it is a comprehensive digital education ecosystem encompassing rich content on the Uzbek language, history, literature, art, traditions, and science. This integration marks a new milestone in bringing Uzbekistan’s intellectual innovations into the international academic sphere.

The “Uzbek Studies Program” at Oxford is not merely the introduction of a new academic discipline. It symbolizes a new stage in intercultural dialogue, intellectual cooperation, and educational diplomacy, providing an unprecedented opportunity for Oxford students — and the global scholarly community — to engage deeply with Uzbekistan’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage.

“Uzbek School” Project Wins the “My Beloved Uzbek Language” Contest

According to the results of the “Jonajon o‘zbek tilim” (My Beloved Uzbek Language) contest, organized by the Department for the Development of the State Language under the Cabinet of Ministers and the Fund for the Development of the Uzbek Language, the “Uzbek School” project implemented by the Alisher Navo'i Tashkent State University of the Uzbek Language and Literature has been recognized as the Best Practical Initiative for Promoting the Uzbek Language Internationally.

The main goal of the contest is to enhance the prestige of the Uzbek language, identify and support innovative initiatives that promote its use in science, technology, and culture. Within this framework, the “Uzbek School” project stood out for its tangible achievements in teaching Uzbek abroad, popularizing it globally, and developing modern, digital, and innovative approaches to language learning.

Under the leadership of Nozliya Normurodova, Vice-Rector for Science and Innovations, the “Uzbek School” project has so far helped hundreds of international students and learners master the Uzbek language, while also promoting Uzbekistan’s rich culture and values worldwide. As part of the project, Uzbek Language Centers have been established in cooperation with foreign universities, along with the introduction of modern textbooks, online courses, and practical training programs.

Since Nozliya Normurodova is currently attending an international academic event at the University of Oxford, the award was received on her behalf by Durdona Ermatova, a teacher of the “Uzbek School” project.

This recognition clearly reflects the “Uzbek School” project’s remarkable contribution to promoting the Uzbek language and culture at the international level, as well as the consistent efforts of Uzbekistan to strengthen its language policy on the global stage.

Meeting with Academic Lyceum Learners

Rector of Alisher Navo’i Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature (TSUULL), Academician Shuhrat Samariddinovich Sirojiddinov, held a “Rector’s Hour” meeting with the learners of the TSUULL Academic Lyceum.

The conversation took place in a sincere and open dialogue format. The Rector answered the learners’ questions, attentively listened to their opinions, and expressed his confidence in each young person, emphasizing that “Every young individual is an architect of the future.”

During the meeting, topics such as the opportunities created for youth, recent changes in university admission procedures, and the role of young people in today’s education system were discussed. As Rector Sirojiddinov noted, the attention and support provided to youth in our country today are unprecedented. The “El-Yurt Umidi” Foundation, international grants, various competitions, and projects are all opening doors of opportunity and trust for talented young people.

The Rector also highlighted that admission quotas for higher education institutions have increased several times in recent years, which serves as both a responsibility and a sign of trust for every hardworking young applicant.

Recalling the idea put forward by the President — “The Third Renaissance begins with youth” — Shuhrat Sirojiddinov said:
“If you are knowledgeable, proactive, and devoted to your homeland, you may one day be remembered as the generation of the Third Renaissance. This era of progress begins with you.”

He emphasized that knowing the Uzbek language is not only a tool of communication but also an expression of national identity, history, and love for the Motherland:
“A person who knows their language knows their identity,” he stated.

The Rector also stressed that the establishment of Alisher Navo’i University of Uzbek Language and Literature and its affiliated academic lyceum, at the initiative of the President, symbolizes the great respect and trust placed in the Uzbek language, literature, and national values.

At the end of the meeting, Shuhrat Sirojiddinov addressed the youth with the following message: “Never stop learning; dream, strive, and move forward. Your hard work is the foundation of tomorrow’s Uzbekistan.”
