OVERVIEW
Stefano Battain talked about their with Daniela Biocca first-hand experience on sustainability based on their socio-ecological round-the-world trip in 2015 and their professional experience. During their journey across 20 countries, they met with different local communities and civil society organizations (CSOs) promoting sustainable agriculture and environmental sustainability at large. During the guest lecture, the speakers have explored experiences and projects proposing a more sustainable agri-food system through agro-ecology, permaculture, aquaponics and organic techniques.
They discussed how in different countries, individuals, communities and associations are protecting land, water, local culture and biodiversity generating models fostering socio-environmental justice, environmental sustainability and climate justice. Stefano told the students possible solutions to enhance people’s control over how food is grown and what they are eating, balancing it with the environmental and social bottom lines, without further damaging the fragile Planet Earth that nourishes and sustains us.
