Guest Lecture On Environmental Sustainability With Italian NGO at TSUULL, 20 January

Developing interventions to arrest waste is a priority in achieving United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals on Clean Energy, Environmental Sustainability and Responsible Consumption.
A series of short presentations delivered, organized and hosted by TSUULL University and made accessible for all. These public-talks enhance skills related to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, while fostering the involvement of institutions of higher education as valuable stakeholders to achieve the Goals.

We are sure that by participating in these events TSUULL students have gained useful knowledge and also new innovative ideas.
Stefano Battain and Daniela Biocca from Italy in 2015 founded a non-governmental organization called ALTERRATIVE, an independent learning initiative exploring and promoting social, environmental and climate justice experiences and projects.
Stefano Battain talked today about their first-hand experience on sustainability based on their socio-ecological round-the-world trip in 2015 and their professional experience. During their journey across 20 countries, they met with different local communities and civil society organizations (CSOs) promoting sustainable agriculture and environmental sustainability at large.

During the guest lecture, we have explored experiences and projects proposing a more sustainable agri-food system through agroecology, permaculture, aquaponics and organic techniques.

We discussed how in different countries, individuals, communities and associations are protecting land, water, local culture and biodiversity generating models fostering socio-environmental justice, environmental sustainability and climate justice. Stefano told the students possible solutions to enhance people’s control over how food is grown and what they are eating, balancing it with the environmental and social bottom lines, without further damaging the fragile Planet Earth that nourishes and sustains us.

Area: Socio-Environmental Justice, Sustainable Communities, Environmental Sustainability, Climate Justice, Waste Management, Composting

Sustainable Development Goal 12 (SDG 12 or Global Goal 12), titled ‘responsible consumption and production’, is one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations in 2015. The official wording of SDG 12 is ‘Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns’ which calls for a comprehensive set of actions from businesses, policy-makers, researchers and consumers to adapt to sustainable practices.
