Sustainable Development Goal 12 (SDG 12 or Global Goal 12), titled ‘responsible consumption and production’, is one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations in 2015. The official wording of SDG 12 is ‘Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns’ which calls for a comprehensive set of actions from businesses, policy-makers, researchers and consumers to adapt to sustainable practices.

Stefano Battain will talk about their first-hand experience on sustainability based on their socio-ecological round-the-world trip in 2015 and their professional experience. During their journey across 20 countries, they met with different local communities and civil society organisations promoting sustainable agriculture and environmental sustainability at large.

During the lecture, we will explore experiences and projects proposing a more sustainable agri-food system through agroecology, permaculture, aquaponics and organic techniques. We will see how, in different countries, individuals, communities and associations are protecting land, water, local culture and biodiversity generating models fostering socio-environmental justice, environmental sustainability and climate justice.

Stefano and Daniela will discuss possible solutions to enhance people’s control over how food is grown and what they are eating, balancing it with the environmental and social bottom lines, without further damaging the fragile Planet Earth that nourishes and sustains us.
