Eliminating Pressure and Violence Against Women

In a world where progress and equality are essential to sustainable development, one issue continues to demand global attention - the prevention and elimination of violence against women. Recognizing the importance of this cause, the Alisher Navo'i Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature hosted a profound and thought-provoking spiritual-educational event titled “Eliminating Pressure and Violence Against Women.”

The event was organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, highlighting the state’s ongoing commitment to protecting the rights, dignity, and well-being of women and girls across the country.

Strengthening Awareness and Responsibility

The event gathered university leaders, professors, students, and prominent guests, including Malika Qodirkhonova, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Women and Gender Equality, and Gulnora Parpiyeva, Senior Inspector of the Yakkasaroy District Department of Internal Affairs (Lieutenant Colonel). Their participation underscored the government’s integrated approach in tackling violence - through policy, education, and enforcement.

During her address, Gulnora Parpiyeva emphasized a critical truth:

“Violence is not an issue limited to developing nations - it occurs in every corner of the world, even in the most advanced societies. Any form of violence, regardless of its type or scale, is first and foremost a violation of human rights.”

She continued, stressing the importance of changing outdated mentalities:

“It is time for our society to let go of harmful stereotypes, prejudices, and discrimination. We must conduct widespread awareness campaigns to ensure that every citizen understands - those who commit violence will face punishment in accordance with the law. Only through collective understanding and responsibility can we create an environment of zero tolerance for violence against women.”

Building a Society Free of Fear

The discussion highlighted that violence against women - whether physical, psychological, sexual, or economic - is not merely a private issue, but a societal and national concern that weakens families and hinders development. A society that turns a blind eye to violence cannot progress morally or socially.

Speakers at the event called on young people to become advocates for equality and empathy, encouraging them to take an active role in preventing violence, supporting victims, and building respectful relationships based on mutual understanding.

Legal Reforms and Protection Mechanisms

In recent years, Uzbekistan has made remarkable progress in legal reforms aimed at strengthening the protection of women and families. A vertical support system has been established - extending from national institutions to mahallas (neighborhood communities) and even individual households - ensuring that every woman can access protection, advice, and assistance when needed.

Furthermore, a strong legal framework has been implemented to protect women and children from any form of violence. Laws now clearly define domestic violence as a separate criminal offense, with administrative and criminal penalties established for those who commit such acts.

These decisive measures reflect the state’s firm commitment to upholding human rights, safeguarding families, and fostering a culture of respect and equality. Importantly, Uzbekistan’s legal recognition of domestic violence as a separate crime has been acknowledged and praised by the international community, positioning the nation as a model for progressive reform in the region.

Empowerment Through Education and Unity

At the heart of the event was a powerful message: education is the foundation of prevention. When individuals are informed, they are empowered to make choices, stand against injustice, and support others in need. The university’s role as a center of enlightenment and moral development was emphasized - not only in academic excellence but also in nurturing socially responsible citizens.

Speakers highlighted the need to cultivate empathy, kindness, and awareness among students, reminding them that true progress begins when society values every individual equally. When women and men walk side by side - with equal rights, opportunities, and respect - nations flourish.

Toward a Future Without Violence

The event concluded with a call for unity and collective responsibility. Ending violence against women is not solely a women’s issue - it is a human issue, one that requires the participation of every citizen, family, institution, and organization.

Participants left the event with renewed awareness, a stronger sense of responsibility, and a shared belief that together, we can build a safer, fairer, and more compassionate society.

The “Eliminating Pressure and Violence Against Women” event at TSUULL served as a reminder that real change begins with action - with education, empathy, and courage. By standing together against violence, Uzbekistan takes another step forward toward equality, dignity, and justice for all.

“A world free of violence begins in the heart of each person.
When we choose respect over aggression, empathy over indifference, and justice over silence - we create the foundation for peace.”
