
"EAST AND WEST: NAVOIY AND GOETHE" INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE
On June 21, an international scientific-theoretical conference titled "East and West: Navoiy and Goethe" was organized by the Department of World Literature and Comparative Literary Studies at Alisher Navoiy Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature. The conference was opened by the rector of the university, Doctor of Philology, Professor Shuhrat Sirojiddinov.
The first deputy speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Director of the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Doctor of Juridical Sciences, Academician Akmal Saidov addressed the participants, congratulating them on their involvement in this important academic event. Isajon Sulton, an advisor to the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation of Uzbekistan and the People’s Writer of Uzbekistan, also spoke about the recent expansion of literary research in Uzbekistan, the introduction of modern analytical methods, and the direct contribution of comparative literature to the development of national literature.
In the plenary session, renowned scholars and literary experts from Uzbekistan and around the world also gave valuable speeches. Among them were Colin Dyurkop, chairman of the Germany-Uzbekistan Friendship Society, Almaz Ulvi Binnatova, head of the Department of Azerbaijani-Turkmenistani-Uzbek Literary Relations at the Nizami Ganjavi Institute of Literature, Professor Munevver Tekjan from Kocaeli University (Turkey), Professor Raqimjan Turisbek from L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University (Kazakhstan), and Doctor of Philology Suvon Meli from the Institute of Uzbek Language, Literature, and Folklore of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan. These scholars discussed the common aspects of the creative works of Alisher Navoiy and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, the history, present, and future of East-West literary connections.
The conference continued with sessions covering topics such as Navoiy and Goethe: Aesthetic, Poetic, Typological Comparison, General Theoretical Problems of Eastern and Western Enlightenment, and Issues of Modern Eastern and Western Literature. These discussions offered new insights into the shared literary heritage of the East and West, emphasizing the significant contributions of both Navoiy and Goethe to world literature.
