Transportation program designed to limit or decrease the parking area on campus
Parking at Alisher Navo’i Tashkent State University of Uzbek language and literature (TSUULL) is limited and in great demand. Parking & Transportation Services (PTS) at the University makes every effort to provide adequate parking. However, limited space, increasing enrollment, and new facility construction often make parking a challenge for visitors, students, and employees of the University. Parking rules exist to ensure an orderly campus environment and a fair allocation, and use of, available parking space. The rules are not intended to punish but to educate. Parking rules are regulatory and should be interpreted fairly. These rules should ensure parking is orderly, fair, and convenient to all within the limits of the available space and facilities.
The responsibility of finding a legal parking space rests with the vehicle operator. A parking permit does not guarantee a parking space. However, it does grant the privilege to park in one space in the designated area when parking is available. Inability to find a space does not constitute a license to violate these regulations. If a permit holder cannot find a parking space, he/she should contact Parking & Transportation Services dispatch office at (+998 71) 2814511 for guidance. Use of emergency flashers does not excuse illegal parking or otherwise relieve the operator from compliance with these regulations.
TSUULL has been reducing its car parking area gradually since 2020. The designated spot for car parking was 2400 square meters in the last three years, however, the total area for car parking has been decreased to 1310 square meters. TSUULL has been charging high amount for car parking on its parking lot outside of the main Campus. The considerable vehicle parking reduction is observed in result of the policy. The exponential growth of bike rent has been tracked by the bike rent record logs, thus, new bike purchase was initiated.
TSUULL does aslo rent bicycles for students and staff whoever wants to run some errands in the neighborhood. The bike rent cost is calculated per hour which is merely 12 000 UZS (equals to $ 1 US). TSUULL provıdes 10 bıcycles to students and staff to promote healthy and sustaınable lıfestyle. Even though, it charges very small amount per hour for bike rent, every Thursday the bikes are free of charge with the limit of 2 hours per person. This coming year, the Sustainable Practices office has placed the order of 20 more bicycles to use on and around campus.
Students union also initiated the yandex carpool amongst university population to ease commuting from and to the university. TSUULL Youth Union regularly posts polls on its telegram channel offering students and staff carpool on Yandex taxi. This helps reduce the transportation costs and environmental impact of transportation.
TSUULL acrively promotes and encourages the ‘Vehicle Free Days’ in the City several times a year. The administration and university management all show up by no vehicle on those days setting an example to student body.
