Prospects of Uzbek Applied Philology
A national scientific-practical conference titled “Prospects of Uzbek Applied Philology” was recently held, initiated by the Department of Applied Philology. The conference was conducted both online via the ZOOM platform and in-person at the assembly hall of the Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature (ToshDO'TAU).
The conference aimed to elevate the prestige and influence of the Uzbek language both within the country and abroad, while maximizing the practical utilization of its linguistic capabilities. It focused on devising effective strategies for language policy and management in Uzbekistan, offering innovative recommendations to enhance the field through research. This included improving the nation's lexicography, advancing the system of national terminology, and effectively organizing applied research on linguistic expertise. The event also sought to contribute to the enhancement of Uzbek language education quality domestically and internationally, aligning scientific research efforts with contemporary demands.
This scholarly gathering was organized in response to the directives outlined in several key documents, including the Presidential Decree on the establishment of the Alisher Navoiy Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature, the concept for developing Uzbekistan’s public education system until 2030, and the decree on significantly raising the status and prestige of the Uzbek language as the state language. Additionally, it aimed to support the tasks specified in the Cabinet of Ministers' resolution on implementing international research initiatives to assess education quality within the public education system.
The conference featured various sessions focusing on language policy and management in Uzbekistan, practical issues in computational and corpus linguistics, linguistic expertise, and challenges in applied philology from the perspectives of young researchers.
