Objective: The Rediscovering Language startup focuses on promoting the use of authentic Uzbek vocabulary by providing alternatives to commonly used Russian-borrowed words. This project seeks to revive the richness of the Uzbek language, encouraging its use in everyday conversations, media, and education. The initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) – Quality Education – by supporting linguistic preservation and promoting inclusive and equitable education through language awareness.
Project Tasks:
Research and Compilation of Native Uzbek Words:
•  Conduct extensive research to identify native Uzbek terms that have been replaced by Russian loanwords.
•  Compile these words into a comprehensive digital database for easy reference and use.
Development of App and Website:
•  Build a user-friendly app and website that serve as dictionaries and thesauruses, offering native Uzbek alternatives to Russian borrowings. The platform will provide detailed definitions, context examples, and usage tips for both traditional and modern-day scenarios.
Project Outcome: The Rediscovering Language platform will serve as an invaluable resource for Uzbek speakers, offering a digital solution to the growing dominance of Russian-borrowed words. The app and website will raise awareness about the importance of linguistic diversity, helping users rediscover forgotten words and phrases. Through interactive tools, the project will foster a new generation of Uzbek speakers who value and actively use their native language.
In addition, the initiative will contribute to broader cultural preservation efforts, ensuring that future generations maintain a stronger connection to their linguistic and cultural heritage. The project will also stimulate greater pride in the Uzbek language, empowering people to embrace their linguistic identity in all aspects of life.
SDG 4 Alignment: This project supports SDG 4 by enhancing language education, fostering linguistic diversity, and promoting cultural heritage. By encouraging the use of native words, the platform helps ensure that students receive a quality education rooted in their linguistic identity, contributing to the broader goal of inclusive and equitable education.
Rediscovering Language is a vital tool for reviving traditional Uzbek language, preserving cultural heritage, and fostering a deeper appreciation of linguistic diversity.
