Objective: The "Uzbek Language for Foreigners" (B1) textbook project, spearheaded by the Alisher Navoi Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature, aims to deliver comprehensive B1-level knowledge of the Uzbek language to international learners. Using internationally recognized language learning methodologies, the textbook focuses on developing proficiency in the four core skills: speaking, writing, reading, and listening. This project seeks not only to enhance language abilities but also to foster a positive impression of Uzbekistan and its rich cultural heritage, leaving learners with a deep appreciation for both the language and the country.
Project Tasks: 1. Develop a Structured Curriculum: Create lessons that build on foundational A2-level knowledge, guiding learners toward B1-level proficiency in speaking, writing, reading, and listening. 2. Introduce Practical Language Skills: Focus on teaching Uzbek vocabulary and expressions relevant to everyday interactions, education, work, and social contexts, making the language functional for daily life. 3. Incorporate Official Document Writing: Design lessons on writing official documents such as letters, applications, and reports, complete with practical exercises. 4. Enhance Vocabulary: Provide learners with an extensive introduction to Uzbek terms and fixed expressions, ensuring they can communicate fluently and understand nuances in conversation. 5. Create an Explanatory Dictionary: Develop a resource of Uzbek-specific terms and expressions to serve as a valuable reference for students throughout the course and beyond. 6. Integrate Listening and Phonetics Practice: Include exercises and dialogues that emphasize listening comprehension and correct pronunciation, reinforcing learners’ understanding of Uzbek phonetics. 7. Foster Cultural Understanding: Design the curriculum to highlight Uzbek customs, traditions, and social norms, deepening learners’ understanding of the cultural context in which the language is used. Project Outcome: Upon completion of the "Uzbek Language for Foreigners" (B1) textbook, learners will have achieved a solid proficiency in the Uzbek language. Specifically, they will be able to:
• Confidently express their thoughts and opinions on a variety of topics. • Read, understand, and analyze texts, as well as write simple work-related documents and personal correspondence. • Apply Uzbek vocabulary and fixed expressions in practical, real-life conversations, supported by an expanded vocabulary and cultural awareness. • Benefit from dialogues and examples that reflect common scenarios in Uzbek society, improving their ability to interact in everyday and professional settings. • Improve their listening and pronunciation skills, allowing for greater accuracy and fluency in spoken Uzbek. Additionally, the project will provide learners with a rich understanding of Uzbek culture, customs, and traditions, enhancing their overall language-learning experience and fostering cross-cultural appreciation. This textbook will serve as a key resource for international learners, promoting the Uzbek language on a global scale and strengthening educational offerings at Alisher Navoi Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature. SDG 4 Alignment: The "Uzbek Language for Foreigners" (B1) textbook aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by promoting inclusive, equitable access to high-quality language education. By providing international learners with structured, culturally immersive language resources, the project helps bridge gaps in educational opportunities, particularly for those seeking to learn Uzbek as a foreign language. This initiative also supports the preservation of linguistic diversity and the promotion of Uzbek culture, contributing to global cultural understanding and linguistic heritage.
