Objectives: Nowadays, creating explanatory dictionaries, dictionaries of synonyms, antonyms, gradation dictionaries, dictionaries of archaic words, dialect words, idioms, word combinations, homonymous words, words with similar structure, word composition dictionaries, pronunciation dictionaries, and subject-specific terminological dictionaries and encyclopedias for every field is becoming an essential task for young people eager for knowledge. Therefore, we have set the goal to create an explanatory dictionary of loanwords in the Uzbek language. This dictionary will assist students in achieving excellence in knowledge, fulfill some of their needs, enhance their speech culture, broaden their worldview, and improve literacy.
Project Tasks:
1. The increasing demand for various types of dictionaries among students and applicants in Uzbekistan;
2. The fact that a comprehensive version of a mobile app for the explanatory dictionary of loanwords in the Uzbek language has not yet been created in Uzbekistan;
3. By creating a mobile app for the explanatory dictionary of loanwords in the Uzbek language, it will offer students convenience and time-saving while expanding their vocabulary;
4. By creating this mobile app, young people interested in lexicography will develop their knowledge in this field and use it as an effective tool for future innovative work.
Project Outcome: Working on dictionaries is one of the essential factors in developing students' creative thinking and speech. Dictionaries help to develop students' creative thinking, independent reasoning, and the ability to express creative thoughts fluently in both oral and written forms. The convenience of this dictionary is that students no longer need to search through various dictionary books to find a specific loanword. Instead, they can quickly and easily find the word by pressing the search button on the mobile app. This dictionary will include words borrowed from various languages: Arabic, Persian-Tajik, Greek, Latin, Russian, English, and French.
SDG 16 Alignment: The "Uzbek Loanwords Unlocked" project aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 16 (SDG 16) – Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. This initiative promotes access to information and knowledge, ensuring that students and the general public can enhance their literacy and language skills. By creating a mobile app for the explanatory dictionary of loanwords in Uzbek, the project fosters transparency and inclusivity in education, enabling users to better understand the linguistic heritage of their language.
