Angela Trofimova, an Uzbek Filmmaker, Holds a Public-Talk Offline for TSUULL Students on Uzbek Art and Cinema, 2 June

On 2 June 2023, Ms. Angela Trofimova, a Film Expert, Experimental Filmmaker and English Coach, visited TSUULL University and held a lecture entitled ‘Uzbek Art and Culture: Introduction to the Cycle of Lectures ‘Masterpieces of the World Cinema, Uzbek Feature Films and Documentary Films about Arts’ // First part of the Film “Nezhnost” by Elyor Ishmyhamedov (‘Muloyimlik’ or ‘Tenderness’)’, which took place at 212 Hall on Friday.

The lecture was held in English and was also attended by 35 students and University guests. The topic aroused great interest, thus many questions ensued.

Art and diverse cultures benefit students by increasing their worldliness, preparing them for future career success in the global workforce, expanding their creative thinking capacity, and much more.

This film opens a ‘new wave’ in Uzbek cinema. We talked about old Tashkent city and the importance of preservation of cultural heritage. Film viewing can have a positive impact on the comprehensive development of students studying foreign languages in several aspects:
1. Language development: watching movies in a foreign language helps to improve the understanding of a foreign language, especially in the context of spoken language and nuances of pronunciation. In addition, it can helps to expand vocabulary and improve grammar;
2. Developing cultural understanding: films reflect the culture from which they originate. Watching films in a foreign language helps students to better understand foreign culture, customs, traditions and history;
3. Developing Critical Thinking and Social Skills: watching films in a foreign language can help students develop critical thinking by assessing and analyzing the content, technique and style of the film and develop social skills such as communication, collaboration and leadership.
