Empowering Future Teachers at TSUULL: Promoting Cultural Heritage and Sustainable Development by Visiting Samarkand, 20 November

On 20 November 2023, a group of TSUULL Bachelor Students of Uzbek Philology Faculty visited Samarkand headed by Shokir Khalilov, University Tutor and Faculty's Deputy Dean for Spiritual and Educational Affairs.

Samarkand can truly be called a unique city! The greatest poets and philosophers of the world have given the city many names – the garden of the soul, the pearl of the east, the mirror of the world and even the face of the earth. Cultural aspects play a pivotal role for the 2030 UN Agenda to be successful. Cultural rights, heritage, diversity and creativity are core components of human and sustainable development.

At the beginning of the 21st century, the city was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List under the title ‘Samarkand – Crossroads of Cultures’.

‘While watching Samarkand, one of the central cities of the Great Silk Road, we felt the oriental spirit of this ancient city’, TSUULL students said.

Such visits are the compulsory part of TSUULL curricula. To overcome challenges, TSUULL tutors proposed a multi-faceted approach including life-long professional development for teachers/lecturers/assistants, integrating SDGs into the curriculum, fostering partnerships with local communities, mainstreaming community engagement, and leveraging technology for enhanced learning experiences.
