Sustainable Water Management at TSUULL

Water is one of the most valuable natural resources and plays a vital role in ensuring environmental sustainability and human well-being. Recognizing the importance of responsible water management, Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature (TSUULL) has adopted a comprehensive approach to conserving water resources, improving water-use efficiency, and promoting sustainable practices across its campuses. Through continuous investment in infrastructure, innovative technologies, and environmental awareness, the University seeks to minimize water consumption while maintaining a healthy and resilient campus environment.

TSUULL implements a wide range of water conservation initiatives aimed at reducing water losses, improving stormwater management, and encouraging responsible water use among students and staff. The University maintains separate wastewater and stormwater drainage systems, expands rainwater harvesting infrastructure, monitors water supply networks, and supports digital reporting tools for identifying leaks and infrastructure problems. These measures are complemented by awareness campaigns and regular maintenance activities that strengthen the University’s long-term commitment to efficient water resource management.

To further enhance sustainability, TSUULL promotes the use of water-efficient technologies and the reuse of treated and harvested water for non-potable purposes. Water-efficient appliances, improved irrigation systems, rainwater storage facilities, and greywater reuse practices contribute to reducing dependence on municipal water supplies while supporting campus landscaping, cleaning, and maintenance. These initiatives not only improve operational efficiency but also demonstrate the University's dedication to adopting environmentally responsible solutions that conserve natural resources.

This webpage presents TSUULL’s integrated water management practices under the UI GreenMetric Water (WR) indicators, highlighting the University’s achievements in water conservation, efficient water use, and water recycling. It provides an overview of the policies, infrastructure, technologies, and sustainability initiatives that support responsible water management and climate resilience. Through these ongoing efforts, TSUULL contributes to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 15 (Life on Land), while fostering a greener and more sustainable campus for future generations.

Water Efficient Appliances Usage

 

The university promotes sustainable water management through the installation of modern water-efficient appliances across the campus. These include 85 sensor faucets, 42 dual-flush toilets, 18 smart irrigation zones, low-flow showerheads, drip irrigation systems, and smart water meters. Sensor faucets reduce the flow rate from 12 to 5 litres per minute, while dual-flush toilets use only 3–6 litres per flush instead of 9 litres. Drip irrigation can also reduce water consumption by 40–60%. Together, these measures improve monitoring, prevent unnecessary water use, and achieve an estimated 35% overall water saving.

 

 




SUVNI ASRA MOBILE APPLICATION

The Suvni Asra (“Save Water”) mobile application is a practical digital platform designed to involve students, staff, and residents in campus water conservation. Through the application, users can quickly report leaks, damaged equipment, and other water-related problems, helping responsible departments identify issues and take timely action. This reduces unnecessary water loss and improves the efficiency of maintenance services.

The application also enables users to monitor water services, submit and track requests, and access useful information about water-saving practices. Its educational features encourage users to develop responsible habits and understand the importance of protecting water resources. By combining public participation, digital monitoring, awareness, and efficient communication, Suvni Asra contributes to a more sustainable and responsive campus water-management system. The application is available on Google Play and the App Store.
