“Turkish-Uzbek Multimodal Dictionary of Cognate Words” Mobile App Launched

The Inclusive Education Scientific-Practical Laboratory team at Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature named after Alisher Navoi has developed the “Turkish-Uzbek Multimodal Dictionary of Cognate Words” mobile application, aimed at reducing semantic confusion between related languages and facilitating the language learning process. The application is now available to users on Google Play.

The application’s database is based on “Turkcha-o‘zbekcha chalg‘ituvchi so‘zlar lug‘ati” (Turkish-Uzbek Dictionary of Confusing Words), authored by Sh. Atamuradov. It contains cognate lexical units in Turkish and Uzbek, along with their translations and pronunciations. As part of the project, dictionary entries are presented through an integrated text-and-audio format, with particular emphasis on helping users accurately understand, distinguish, translate, and pronounce words.

One of the key strengths of this multimodal dictionary is its inclusive functionality. The audio content has been enhanced with specialized audio descriptions, making it easier to identify which words and translations belong to each language. This creates a more accessible learning environment, especially for users with visual impairments. In addition, abbreviations are presented in expanded audio format, ensuring information is delivered in a clear and comprehensive manner.

Compatible with speech synthesizers, the mobile application represents an innovative digital product that contributes to the advancement of modern digital lexicography, inclusive education, and effective communication between related languages.
