This year’s theme for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities is “Transformative solutions for inclusive development: the role of innovation in fuelling an accessible and equitable world.” Under this theme, the UN encourages global conversations about how to remove barriers in both public and private sectors for those with lived experience of disability, and what innovations can support full access to employment in the rapidly changing world of work. Such innovations rely on diverse perspectives, a willingness to challenge norms and assumptions, and the participation and expertise of persons with disabilities.

Overview:

According to the UN, the inclusion of persons with disabilities in society is essential for ensuring human rights, achieving sustainable development, and establishing peace and security.

It should be said that this date is celebrated annually according to the decision of the UN General Assembly adopted in 1992. The main purpose of this is to better understand the problems faced by disabled people in the society, to eliminate them, to protect their dignity and rights, and to improve their living conditions. Because this category of people have health problems, their opportunities are limited, and their financial conditions are not up to the requirements. By supporting them in every way, it is possible to ensure their activity in the political, social, economic and cultural life of society.

Today, more than 1 billion of the world's population, that is, at least one in seven people, has some type of disability. More than 100 million of them are children. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure equal rights and protect the dignity of those with disabilities in our ranks.
