Alisher Navo’i Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature is committed to supporting students and staff in balancing academic and professional responsibilities with family life, in line with Uzbekistan’s laws on education, childcare, and labor rights, as well as international conventions such as the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

To this end, the university has established an on-campus Childcare Center with two dedicated rooms and a relaxation area — one for students and one for staff and faculty. The center is staffed with qualified childcare professionals, a medical attendant, and a psychologist to ensure the well-being and development of children while supporting parents.

This initiative aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly quality education (SDG 4) and gender equality (SDG 5), enabling parents to continue their studies or work without compromising childcare responsibilities. The Childcare Center provides a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment for children while reinforcing the university’s social support system and fostering a family-friendly campus culture.

Childcare Spaces for Students and Staff

Childcare room for students

The Student Childcare Room provides a comfortable and caring environment for young parents who combine university studies with family life. The space includes a safe play area, educational and developmental toys, soft carpets, small beds for napping, a changing table, and a calm corner where mothers can rest with their children.

Before joining daily activities, every child is checked by the center’s nurse to ensure they are healthy. This practice has proven effective in keeping the environment clean and safe. Statistics show that about 95 percent of children are cleared to join group play each day, while around 5 percent may be referred to a separate medical room for observation if signs of illness are detected.

On average, twenty to thirty children visit the room daily. Around 30 percent of them are accompanied by a personal caregiver or a relative, but in most cases, the childcare assistant takes care of the children with genuine warmth and attention. This close connection helps children feel safe and emotionally secure, encouraging play-based learning and social development.

The Student Childcare Room allows young mothers to continue their education with confidence and peace of mind. It embodies the university’s broader goal of building an inclusive, gender-equal, and family-friendly academic environment where both parents and children can thrive.

The Staff Childcare Room

The Staff Childcare Room is a specially equipped space for the children of university teachers and employees. The room was furnished with the generous support of the Korean organization KIDC, reflecting international collaboration in promoting family-friendly and inclusive workplaces.

Designed for children aged 0 to 5, the room provides age-appropriate furniture for both parents and children, ergonomic play areas, and a wide range of educational and developmental toys. The temperature is kept at a comfortable level throughout the day, and large windows provide natural light, helping to support children’s healthy growth and emotional well-being.

All furnishings are made from eco-friendly materials, and the room is regularly cleaned and monitored to maintain high safety and hygiene standards. The space includes five infant loungers, a diaper-changing corner, a feeding area, and a wardrobe for children’s belongings, ensuring convenience and comfort for both parents and caregivers. The Staff Childcare Room not only creates a supportive environment for working parents but also strengthens family values, promotes gender equality, and contributes to women’s professional engagement. By helping parents stay active in their careers while ensuring their children’s well-being, the university demonstrates its commitment to sustainable development and inclusive growth.

Additional Opportunities

Every year on June 1, International Children’s Day, the university organizes a joyful event for the children of staff members. The celebration includes fun games, creative activities, and thoughtful gifts, creating memorable moments for every child. This tradition reflects TSUULL’s care for families and its warm, inclusive campus culture.
